And I'm not even making a pun! I'm still in Canterbury and doing the rounds of all the tourist type things I can find, including the absolutely required element of the Canterbury Tales exhibit. It's just round the corner from the Cathedral and so long as you don't mind smelly exhibits it's really quite fun!
I've never actually read Chaucer so for me it was a case of going in blind simply because I wanted to know more about it. For the £7-odd you pay, you get an audio tour and it's really quite fun, in that you move round the exhibit and the little radio headset tells you all about everything you're seeing.
As you can see, it's basically resin or fiber-glass creations of the different characters with the occasional light show or puppet show. Despite the low-tech nature, you got a decent feel for the life of the pilgrims.
On the way through, you hear snippets of the Knight's Tale, the Widow's Tale, the Miller's Tale, the Friar's Tale and the Pardoner's Tale.
It's inspired me, I have to admit, to at least see if I can find a modern English version, if not an original Middle English version.
Still having fun in Canterbury! Can't wait to see what else I'll find!
